I have seen you perform with different musicians in a variety of venues-- sometimes presenting your own music, and at other times, the music of other artists. You always bring out what is best in whatever you play-- but certainly when you play original compositions your beautiful technique and true"soul" is most evident. Thus your performances are your best promotions; audience reactions best testify to this. Of course I, and other "affecionados", have been personally promoting the works of the Austin jazz community for years, and will continue to do so; but I admit that I sometimes feel like a cry in the wilderness. So, go ahead and do whatever you can do to create interest your art and; Do not feel you are giving in to the baser side of the music business; the reality that Americans are so ignorant and/or indifferent to this country's one original, musical art form. Thank God, most first class universities treat jazz with the respect they used to reserve only for classical music. But as usual, the jazz winners for the Grammys will not be covered on prime time TV this month. This just points out the need for jazz musicans and composers today to think outside the box in promoting their work. Alas, I wish it was not so.
